Overview

The Greenspring Summer Fun program offers a fun-filled, nurturing and non-competitive environment in which to learn and play for children ages 18 months to 9 years old. Come explore science, nature, history and geography; create music, art and craft projects; and learn skills through cooking and recreational sports. Children and their families will enjoy our small, family-like atmosphere. Our Summer Fun Programs offer fun for everyone!

Explorer Programs (age 3)

Each week of Explorer Summer Fun includes one in-house guest presentation from organizations such as My Reptile Guys, Eric Energy, and Tumblebus Time.


Weekly Programs

Music, Art, and Tumbling
Monday, June 19 – 23, 2017 – Week 1
This program is designed for any child who wants to embark on a journey to their creative side! Instead of using a paint brush, we will use items such as water bottles, sponges, straws, hands and feet to create works of art. Listening, singing and rhythm concepts will be our focus as we have fun exploring music. We will work on tumbling skills and explore creative movement through the use of obstacle courses, balance beams, and fun movement activities.

 

Down on the Farm
Monday, June 26 – 30, 2017 – Week 2
BAA, Cluck, MOO. This active, hands-on program will surely delight your three year olds as they learn about the animals that live on a farm and plants that grow there. Have a chance to meet live farm animals! Each day is filled with music, crafts, role playing, food tasting, and many more fun activities!

 

Splash, Move, POP!
Monday, July 3 – 7, 2017 – Week 3

Splish, Splash, Move! What better way to spend the summer than to be in a miniature waterpark! We will enjoy bubbles, sprinkler fun, water tables, waterfalls, and water related games. Fun and exciting outdoor games are sure to be a blast!

 

Animal Adventure: Mammals and Sea Life
Monday, July 10 – 14, 2017 – Week 4
Lions, tigers, and bears, oh my! Come face to face with the marvels of the animal world. We will learn more about familiar creatures and discover some fascinating new ones as we explore mammals and sea life. Each day is filled with exciting activities that include storytelling, sing-a-longs, art, and creative play!

 

All Ball!
Monday, July 17 – 21, 2017 – Week 5
Do all balls bounce? Are all balls round? How many ways do people use balls? With all this “ball talk”, let’s get outside and explore! This week is full of fun activities that include bouncing, throwing, painting, and creative play, strengthening your child’s physical development skills!

 

Animal Adventure: Reptiles and Insects
Monday, July 24 – 28, 2017 – Week 6
How does a snake see in the dark? Are lizards related to alligators? How does a caterpillar turn into a butterfly? We will learn more about familiar creatures and discover some fascinating new ones as we explore reptiles and insects. Each day is filled with exciting activities that include storytelling, sing-a-longs, art, and creative play!

 

Ooey Gooey Science
Monday, July 31 – August 4, 2017 – Week 7
We all like to get a little messy every now and then – especially kids! Explore science while having fun with sticky, gooey, slimy hands-on activities that will keep us laughing all week! Each day is filled with fun activities that include sensory exploration, creative play, simple science experiments, and so much more!

 

Summer Classics and Carnival Week
Monday, August 7 – 11, 2017 – Week 8
Let’s revive the classic games of the past! Pure summer fun is the theme for this week, which is chock full of “classics” such as Hopscotch, Simon Says, egg-spoon races, the Hokey Pokey, and so much more! Each day will include simple cooking activities, art, storytelling, and creative play! We will end summer fun with a carnival on Friday!

Creative Painting and Indoor Sports
Monday, June 19 – 23, 2017 – Week 1
It’s amazing to see what can be created when children are given the freedom to explore and express themselves creatively! This is an experience that will spark creativity, engagement, exploration and individual expression. This session is combined with physical activity as we head to the gym for recreational fun. The afternoon is filled with exciting activities that will help develop muscle strength and give a good cardiovascular workout in creative ways.

 

Journey through Space!
Monday, June 26 – 30, 2017 – Week 2
We’ll be shooting for the stars this week! Take a trip through the solar system and discover what’s really up in the sky. Learn fascinating facts about planets, comets, asteroids, and more. We will explore the different areas of interest through storytelling, art, games, and interactive activities. The sky’s the limit this week for our intergalactic space odyssey!

 

Splash and Move!
Monday, July 3 – 7, 2017 – Week 3

What better way to spend the summer than to be in a miniature waterpark! We will enjoy many exciting water games, such as sponge relay races, water limbo, and jump rope splash. Beat the heat with fun and exciting outdoor games. This week is sure to be a blast!

 

Animal Adventures: Mammals and Sea Life
Monday, July 10 – 14, 2017 – Week 4
Do whales sleep? What do koalas eat? How do kangaroos carry their babies? Join us as we come face to face with the marvels of the animal world. We will learn more about familiar creatures and discover some fascinating new ones as we explore mammals and seal life. Each day is filled with exciting activities that include storytelling, music, art, and creative play! This week will include an exciting animal encounter program where we will meet real live animals!

Monday, July 31 – August 4, 2017 – Week 7
Discover! Explore! Investigate! We will observe our natural surroundings and discover the simple joys of nature. Take a look at plant and animal identification. Discover your favorite creepy, crawly critters. Fun-filled activities include animal encounters, nature walks, crafts, scavenger hunts, nature games, and cooking. You will love this sensory approach to exploring the great outdoors.

Brains and Games
Monday, June 19 – 23, 2017 – Week 1
Challenge your mind! Solve and create your own brain teasers, logic puzzles, riddles, and optical illusions. Build a fortune as we play an exciting game of Monopoly. Laugh out loud as we play Apples to Apples Junior and make crazy comparisons while expanding our vocabulary! Each day includes other activities such as arts and crafts and outdoor games. This program allows children to develop thinking skills by “stretching” their minds!

 

Trash to Treasure
Monday, June 26 – 30, 2017 – Week 2
They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder! In this session, we will use recycled materials and objects from nature to turn something that we would normally walk right by into creative and fun works of art! This is an experience that will spark creativity, engagement, exploration, and individual expression. Let your child’s imagination soar!

 

Culinary Kids
Monday, July 3 – 7, 2017 – Week 3

Cooking together can be a delicious learning experience! We will work in small groups to create dishes, explore new foods, and learn about nutrition, as well as learning the importance of washing one’s hands and how to safely work with foods and kitchen utensils. Learn important cooking skills and vocabulary, such as how to measure, whisk, and knead. We will engage all of our senses this week. This is sure to be a mouthwatering experience for all!

 

Wilderness Adventures
Monday, July 10 – 14, 2017 – Week 4
Investigate our surroundings and discover the simple joys of nature. Spend the week observing and learning about native plants and animals, exploring ecosystems, collecting natural objects, making natural crafts, playing games, and having lots of outdoor fun! Each child will store personal observations, discoveries, and interesting finds in a nature journal. This one is for the outdoor enthusiast for sure!

 

Sports Unlimited
Monday, July 17 – 21, 2017 – Week 5
So many sports – so little time. Each day will be a different sport experience – soccer, badminton, softball, and more. We will also explore some backyard favorites such as Frisbee and Kickball. Fitness, teamwork and fun are emphasized. We will alternate between indoor and outdoor activities.

 

Animal Planet
Monday, July 24 – 28, 2017 – Week 6
The world is home for about one-and-a-half million different kinds of animals. Join us as we explore a fascinating world of animals – from ones so small that they can only be seen through a microscope to the massive blue whale, the largest animal that has ever lived. Learn about how animals evolved, where they live today, and why so many are in danger. This is sure to be a roaring adventure for everyone!

 

Creative Painting
Monday, July 31 – August 4, 2017 – Week 7
Children will be inspired to reach beyond and create art that is unique to them. By doing so, kids feel empowered to be creative and expressive. It’s amazing to see just what kids can design when given the freedom to explore and to express themselves creatively! Each day will consist of other activities such as drawing lessons, cooking, and outdoor games.

Each day will also include activities such as cooking, art, storytelling, and outdoor play! We will end Summer Fun with a carnival on Friday!

Summer Montessori 

Hours and Fees

8:30am-12:00pm – $255 per week

8:30am-4:00pm – $450 per week

There is a 7-week minimum requirement for Summer Montessori Programs.


 

Young Toddler Classroom – Ages 18 months – 2 years

Older Toddler classroom – Ages 2 – 3 years

Children’s House Classroom – Ages 3 – 6 years

Are you a working parent interested in extending your child’s learning experience into the summer months? Are you new to Greenspring Montessori School and looking to learn more with your child? Whatever the case may be, we have Summer Montessori Sessions to best fit your needs.

Children work with hands-on classroom materials while striving to improve motor skills, language abilities, and socialization skills. They also enjoy songs, stories, and outdoor play. Once the children are engaged in the classroom activities, they are very comfortable exploring the magic of the classroom on their own for the duration of the session.

A Typical Day at Summer Fun:

8:30am – Arrivals
9:00am – Morning Exploration & Snack
11:00am – Water & Outdoor/Gym Play
12:00pm – Dismissal for Morning Friends & Lunch
1:00pm – Rest Time (children under 5 are given the opportunity to rest/nap); Enrichment Project; Fun!
3:00pm – Snack Time
3:20pm – Outdoor/Gym Play
4:00pm – Dismissal for Full Day Friends

 


 

Payment Information

Weekly Discounts

Weekly discounts are available for all families who register children on or before March 17, 2017. (This discount is non-transferrable from week to week or child to child after March 17.)

  • Full Day discount: $25
  • Half Day discount: $15

Sibling Discounts

Parents enrolling more than one child in Greenspring Montessori School’s Summer Fun Program will receive 10% off for the child enrolled in the less expensive program.


 

Application and Enrollment Guidelines

Orientation

All parents (upon receipt of a completed summer application) will receive an orientation packet after May 1, 2017 which will include information needed for each of our summer programs.

Holiday

School is closed in observation of Independence Day on Tuesday, July 4, 2017. Fees are not pro-rated for this session.

Payment Information

In the event payments are not received in full when due, a late charge for accounts 30 days past due will be assessed at the rate of 1.5% per month on the unpaid balance. This is an annual percentage rate of 18%.

An enrollment space will not be held for a child if payment is not made when due.

Withdrawal Policy

The Program Director reserves the right to request the immediate withdrawal of any participant whose behavior is detrimental to the program.

Please note that refunds cannot be granted for individual days missed (i.e., for illness, etc.).

Please Note

All children must be toilet-trained before participation in all programs, except for the Toddler Program.

If you wish to amend your child’s program choice or length of day, we must be notified via email to the Program Director at swolf@greenspringmontessori.org. We will let you know if we can accommodate your request. The first change is free of charge, but each additional change will result in a $35 service fee.

Health Forms

You will receive a confirmation (or wait list) letter with Authorization & Consent and Health/Physical forms. All children participating in Summer Fun programs must provide Greenspring Montessori School with these forms prior to the start of the Summer Program in accordance to State Regulations.
