Overview

The Greenspring Summer Fun program offers a fun-filled, nurturing and non-competitive environment in which to learn and play for children ages 18 months to 12 years old. Come explore science, nature, history and geography; create music, art and craft projects; and learn skills through cooking and recreational sports. Children and their families will enjoy our small, family-like atmosphere. Our Summer Fun Programs offer fun for everyone!

Sessions for Summer 2016:

Explorer Programs (3-4 years)

Hours and Fees

8:30am-12:00pm – $220 per week

8:30am-1:00pm – $265 per week

8:30am-4:00pm – $340 per week

Each week of Explorer Summer Fun includes one in-house guest presentation from organizations such as My Reptile Guys, Eric Energy, and D’s Magic Show.


Weekly Programs

Discovering Wildlife: Mammals and Sea life
June 20 – 24, 2016 – Week 1
Do whales swim while they sleep? What do koalas eat? How do kangaroos carry their babies? Children come face to face with the marvels of the animal world! Children learn more about familiar creatures and discover some fascinating new ones through storytelling, sing-a-longs, art, and creative play.

Movement and Tumbling
June 27 – July 1, 2016 – Week 2
How many activities can we fit into a week? Let’s find out as we wiggle ourselves silly and get fit by tumbling, playing games, sports and dancing! This is the perfect place for your child to develop balance, strength and coordination. The week is filled with exciting obstacle courses, balance beams, fun movement activities, and more!

Transportation
*July 5 – 8, 2016 – Week 3
Some people walk, others drive cars. There are buses and trains, too! We also see fire engines, construction vehicles, and garbage trucks! Learn about how we get around and the mighty machines that we see so often. Join us as we lift, push, and dig our way through the week with fascinating stories, songs, art, and movement activities. This is sure to be a truckload of fun!

Discovering Wildlife: Reptiles and Amphibians
July 11 – 15, 2016 – Week 4
How does a snake see in the dark? Are lizards related to alligators? Can a turtle ever leave his shell? Kids learn more about familiar creatures and discover fascinating new ones through storytelling, sing-a-longs, art, creative play activities, and cooking.

Nature Detectives
July 18 – 22, 2016 – Week 5
Investigate our natural surroundings and discover the simple joys of nature. Your child will be a real explorer, using science in fun ways to further his or her understanding and appreciation for nature! Fun-filled activities include storytelling, nature walks, scavenger hunts, nature games, and cooking.

Discovering Wildlife: Insects and Birds
July 25 – 29, 2016 – Week 6
Why do ostriches bury their heads in the sand? How does a caterpillar turn into a butterfly? Are penguins really birds? Children learn more about familiar creatures and discover some fascinating new ones through storytelling, sing-a-longs, art, creative play activities and cooking. From earthworms to the eagle, this is a program that covers the ground, the sky and everything in between!

Creative Painting and Indoor Sports
August 1 – 5, 2016 – Week 7
Marble painting, finger painting, sponge painting, splatter painting, spin art, water colors, and rollers! This session combines creativity with physical activity as we head to the gym after a morning of art. Fun recreational activities help develop muscle strength and give a good cardiovascular workout in creative ways.

Deliciously Nutritious Cooking
June 20 – 24, 2016 – Week 1
It is never too early to learn how to cook and the importance of making healthy food choices. Whether you have a budding chef or a picky eater, we encourage young children to open their minds and palates, follow recipes, work together, and have a fantastic time cooking.

Mystery Adventures
June 27 – July 1, 2016 – Week 2
If you are curious, this is the place to be! We will go on adventures to test myths and mysteries as we learn magic tricks, act as detectives, and play games. Try your investigative skills to guess the mystery surprise at the end of the week!

Transportation
*July 5 – 8, 2016 – Week 3
Find out how people move across land, on water, in the air, and in space. Explore now, in times past and in the future. Discover ultralight airplanes that help birds fly, rowboats made stronger with spiders’ silk, and cars with rocket engines. Learn how boats float, submarines sink, and how airplanes and helicopters fly! This is sure to be carloads of fun!

All Mixed Up! (Wacky Week)
July 11 – 15, 2016 – Week 4
Anything goes during Wacky Week! Experience a little bit of everything camp has to offer. Join us for a week of laughter and fun as we take a walk on the silly side. Each day will have a unique theme, such as pajama day, dress up day, silly games day, and more! Each day will also include cooking, crafts, gardening, and games.

Nature Detectives
July 18 – 22, 2016 – Week 5
Investigate our natural surroundings and learn to understand the relationships of wildlife and the ecosystem. Each day lets your child be a real explorer, using science in fun ways to better understand the natural world. Adventures include environmental games, animal encounters, nature crafts, stream and meadow exploration, and other nature activities. You will love this sensory approach to exploring the great outdoors!

Art Appreciation
July 25 – 29, 2016 – Week 6
Campers will be inspired to create art that is unique to them. Kids feel empowered to be creative and expressive. It’s amazing to see what can be made when given the freedom to explore and express themselves creatively! This is an experience that will spark creativity, engagement, exploration, and individual expression. Let imaginations soar!

Carnival Week
August 1 – 5, 2016 – Week 7
Everyone loves a carnival! Get your tickets now for this enticing week filled with games of chance and skill. Throughout the week, we will enjoy face painting, spin art, tie-dyeing, water balloons, moon bounce, fun snacks, and so much more! We will work together to create fun games and activities. On Friday the campus will be transformed into an exciting place of fun and games.

Challenger Programs (8-12 years)

The Challenger Program for children ages 8 to 12 years old has been cancelled for summer 2016.

Whatever the case may be, we have Summer Toddler Sessions and Year Round Montessori Programs to best fit your needs.

Montessori Year Round

Toddler classrooms for children ages 18 months to 3 years 

Children’s House classrooms for children 3 to 6 years

Greenspring Montessori School is excited to introduce Montessori Year Round (MYR) classrooms at the Toddler and Children’s House levels, beginning in the summer of 2016.

MYR classrooms are open for students throughout the year. At both the Toddler and Children’s House levels, the classroom setting and teaching staff are consistent for students’ continued growth and development throughout the year, offering flexible scheduling for parents.

Summer Sessions for Toddlers

Toddler classrooms for children ages *18 months to 3 years

Hours and Fees

8:30am-12:00pm – $255 per week

8:30am-1:00pm – $300 per week

8:30am-4:00pm – $450 per week

Offered throughout the Summer Program with a 5-week minimum requirement.
Half Day, Through Lunch, or Full Day.
Enrollment is limited to 12 students per class.

Children work with hands-on class-room materials while striving to improve motor skills, language abilities, and socialization skills. They also enjoy songs, stories, and outdoor play. The first day of the session, we encourage one parent or caregiver to stay with the child. Once the children are engaged in the classroom activities, they are very comfortable exploring the magic of the classroom on their own for the duration of the session.

A Typical Day at Summer Fun:

8:30am – Arrivals
9:00am – Morning Exploration & Snack
11:00am – Water & Outdoor/Gym Play
12:00pm – Dismissal for Morning Friends & Lunch
1:00pm – Dismissal for Through Lunch Friends; Rest Time (children under 5 are given the opportunity to rest/nap); Enrichment Project; Fun!
3:00pm – Snack Time
3:20pm – Outdoor/Gym Play
4:00pm – Dismissal for Full Day Friends

Please note that we will be closed on Monday, July 4, 2016 for the Fourth of July holiday.


 

Payment Information

Registering before May 1, 2016? A deposit of $65 per week-long session is due with your application. This deposit is applicable to the full cost of enrollment. The total balance will be due by May 1.

Weekly Discounts

Weekly discounts are available for all families who register children on or before March 17, 2016. (This discount is non-transferrable from week to week or child to child after March 17.)

  • Full Day discount: $25
  • Half Day discount: $15
  • Through Lunch discount: $18

Sibling Discounts

Parents enrolling more than one child in Greenspring Montessori School’s Summer Fun Program will receive 10% off for the child enrolled in the less expensive program.

 


 

Application and Enrollment Guidelines

Please submit the online application with payment. A deposit of $65 per session is due with registration; the balance is due by May 1. If you are registering on or after May 1, the total cost of enrollment is due with your application.

Orientation

All parents (upon receipt of a completed summer application) will receive an orientation packet after May 1 which will include information needed for each of our summer programs.

Holiday

School is closed in observation of Independence Day on Monday, July 4, 2016. Fees are not pro-rated for this session.

Payment Information

In the event payments are not received in full when due, a late charge for accounts 30 days past due will be assessed at the rate of 1.5% per month on the unpaid balance. This is an annual percentage rate of 18%.

An enrollment space will not be held for a child if payment is not made when due.

Withdrawal Policy

The Program Director reserves the right to request the immediate withdrawal of any participant whose behavior is detrimental to the program.

Please note that refunds cannot be granted for individual days missed (i.e., for illness, etc.).

Please Note

All children must be toilet-trained before participation in all programs, except for the Toddler Program.

If you wish to amend your child’s program choice or length of day, we must be notified via email to the Program Director at swolf@greenspringmontessori.org. We will let you know if we can accommodate your request. The first change is free of charge, but each additional change will result in a $35 service fee.

Health Forms

You will receive a confirmation (or wait list) letter with Authorization & Consent and Health/Physical forms. All children participating in Summer Fun programs must provide Greenspring Montessori School with these forms prior to the start of the Summer Program in accordance to State Regulations.
