Bonnie Allen is the Director of Student Support at Greenspring Montessori School. Bonnie first joined the Greenspring community as a parent. Both of her sons graduated from the Adolescent Community, then, in 2015, she joined us as a Toddler Assistant. After a year in the classroom, she was in search for a way to impact the lives of more children, providing support services based on her years of experience in physical therapy and special needs. She has taken part in the core courses in the Early Childhood Teacher credentialing program at the Maryland Center for Montessori Studies here at Greenspring, and completed the Montessori Applied to Children at Risk program through the Shelton School in Dallas, Texas.
Bonnie Allen followed a roundabout path to her current position as the Director of Student Support at Greenspring Montessori School. She began her career as a pediatric physical therapist over 25 years ago, rapidly discovering that to be an effective clinician, an understanding of the whole child is needed. She has pursued coursework in a wide variety of topics, from sensory integration and neurodevelopmental treatment to executive dysfunction and the Orton-Gillingham and Phono-graphix approaches to reading instruction. Bonnie discovered Montessori when seeking a preschool for her children, and found the method in harmony with her own philosophy of working with children. In her current role, she draws upon this eclectic background to support children’s development in the Montessori classroom.
