Shanie Nelson

Director of Advancement

Shanie - Greenspring Montessori SchoolBS in Accounting & Finance from Northeastern University, Boston, MA

“I am overwhelmed at how the Montessori philosophy and the caring staff at Greenspring honor the individual. It did not take me long to see that we made the perfect choice in enrolling our children here.”

Shanie Nelson first came to Greenspring Montessori School as a parent, and in 2015 she joined our team as Development Coordinator, overseeing fundraising efforts, school-wide events, our Parent Association, and so much more. Now holding the title of Director of Advancement and Finance, and responsible for our Admissions, Development, Communications, and Marketing, and Business Office functions, it is Shanie’s goal to truly propel our school forward, simplifying and streamlining our back office procedures to best serve our community.

Prior to joining the Greenspring community, Shanie spent 11 years working for PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP, several years as a CPA, and also in an HR capacity. She relocated to Maryland in 2004 and stopped working in order to focus on blending her new family. Shanie and her husband, Dan, have six children together, two of whom are alumni of the Greenspring Montessori School Adolescent Community. Her daughter began attending Greenspring when she was four years old and graduated in 2023. Shanie and her family have recently moved back to her home state of Maine and her daughter will be attending high school there bringing with her all of the tools and skills she learned at Greenspring. Her son is a 2019 graduate of Greenspring and is now in college at Northeastern University with plans of a career in medicine. Shanie credits Greenspring Montessori School for being a truly pivotal experience in his education and life.

When not at work, Shanie enjoys working on DIY projects at home and times when life slows down so she can simply hang out with her husband and children.
