Summer Programs at Greenspring Montessori

For Children 18 months to 10 years

 

Greenspring Summer Fun offers a fun-filled, nurturing and non-competitive environment in which to learn and play for children ages 18 months to 10 years old. Come explore science, nature, history and geography; create music, art and craft projects; and learn skills through cooking and recreational sports. Children and their families will enjoy our small, family-like atmosphere. Our Summer Fun Programs offer fun for everyone!

Sessions for Summer 2019:

Programs run from June to August 2019. See the programs below for specific dates and hours.

Adventurers Program (ages 6-10)

Hours and Fees

8:30am-4:00pm – $340 per week

Each week includes one field trip such as the Maryland Zoo, Monster Mini Golf, and Urban Air Trampoline Park.


 

Weekly Programs

Slime Time!
Week 1 – June 24-28
Slippery, sparkly, sensory slime time! Explore the scientific properties of several different types of slime and test different colors, textures, and shapes. All materials will be on hand so you can create your own slime. You will leave with a handful of different kinds of slime, from fluffy to sparkly and everything in-between!

Animal Planet
Week 2 – July 1-5
(closed July 4)
The world is home to about one-and-a-half million different kinds of animals. Join us as we explore a fascinating world of animals from ones so small that they can only be seen through a microscope to the massive blue whale, the largest animal that has ever lived. Learn about how animals evolved, where they live today, and why so many are in danger. This is sure to be a roaring adventure for everyone!

Brains and Games
Week 3 – July 8-12
Challenge your mind…solve and create your own brain teasers, logic puzzles, riddles, and optical illusions. Build a fortune as we play an exciting game of Monopoly, laugh out loud as we play Apples to Apples Junior, and make crazy comparisons while expanding our vocabulary and thinking skills at the same time! Each day includes other activities such as arts and crafts and outdoor activities. This program allows children to develop thinking skills by stretching their minds!

Art Appreciation
Week 4 – July 15-19
Campers will be inspired to reach beyond and create art that is unique to them. By doing so, kids feel empowered to be creative and expressive. It’s amazing to see just what kids design when given the freedom to explore and express themselves creatively! This is an experience that will spark creativity, engagement, exploration and individual expression. Let imaginations soar!

Culinary Kids
Week 5 – July 22-26
Cooking together can be a delicious learning experience! Join us as we peel, chop, and bake our way through a fun day! During this program, we will learn how to read recipes, measure ingredients, explore new foods, and learn basic culinary skills and nutritional value. We will share interesting facts about world cuisine and encourage students to share their own cultural food experiences. We hope everyone leaves inspired to share their cooking experience at home!

Sports Unlimited
Week 6 – July 29-August 2
So many sports, so little time. A wide variety of sports will be played where each day is a different sports experience. We will also explore some fun backyard favorites such as Frisbee and kickball. Fitness, teamwork, and fun are emphasized. We will alternate between indoor and outdoor activities.

Summer Classics and Carnival
Week 7 – August 5-9
Let’s revive the classic games of the past! Pure summer fun is the theme for the week, which is chock full of classics such as hopscotch, Jacks, Hokey Pokey, and so much more! Each day will include arts and crafts, storytelling, and creative play. We will end Summer Fun with a carnival on Friday. Many exciting games and carnival themed activities are included. This is sure to make for great summer memories!

 

Explorers Program (ages 3-5)

Hours and Fees

8:30am-4:00pm – $320 per week

8:30am-12:00pm – $215 per week

Each week of Explorer Summer Fun includes one in-house guest presentation from organizations such as My Reptile Guys, Eric Energy, and the Fire Department.

Please be aware that priority is given to children enrolled in Full Day Programs. 


Weekly Programs

Journey through Space
Week 1 – June 24-28
We’ll be shooting for the stars this week! Take a trip through the solar system and discover what’s really up in the sky. Learn fascinating facts about planets, asteroids, and more. We will explore the different areas of interest through storytelling, art, games, and movement activities. The sky’s the limit in the fun and learning that will take place in this intergalactic space odyssey! 

Creative Painting and Indoor Sports 
Week 2 – July 1-5
(closed July 4)
How can we paint? Let us count the ways…marble painting, finger painting, sponge painting, splatter painting, spin art, water colors, and rollers, just to name a few! This session combines creativity with physical activity as we head to the gym after a morning of art. Lots of fun recreational activities that develop muscles and give a good cardiovascular workout will round out the program.   

Splish, Splash, Move!
Week 3 – July 8-12
What better way to spend the summer than to be in a miniature waterpark! We will enjoy bubbles, sprinkler fun, water tables, and water games. Outdoor games, music and movement activities, and arts and crafts will be included as well in this constant flow of fun and excitement!

Dinosaur and Reptile Adventure!
Week 4 – July 15-19
Dinosaurs roamed earth well before the times of humans, ruling the globe for millions of years. Explore archeology and discover all the wonders of our prehistoric past. We will learn more about familiar creatures and discover some fascinating new ones as we explore fun facts about reptiles. We will dig into history, biology, botany, science, and lots of super-sized fun that includes dinosaur and reptile inspired arts and crafts, movement activities and games, rhymes, music, and stories. 

Creative Art and Music
Week 5 – July 22-26
This program is designed for any child who wants to embark on a journey to their creative side. We will create projects using a wide variety of different mediums. Listening, singing, and rhythm concepts will be our focus as we have fun exploring music and sharing songs together! Outdoor games, storytelling, and arts and crafts will be included in this program as well.  

Science Lab Adventures 
Week 6 – July 29- August 2
This session offers an incredible assortment of interactive projects, entertaining demonstrations, and fun experiments that will amuse and amaze your little scientist! We will explore several hands-on activities that will excite our natural curiosity and introduce children to the thrill of scientific discovery! Each day is filled with fun activities that include sensory exploration, creative play, science experiments, and so much more!

Summer Montessori

Summer Montessori Programs are reserved for children who are enrolled in the 2019-20 school year. Families who have applied for the 2019-20 school year may fill out an application for Summer Montessori, however, acceptance into the program is contingent upon enrollment.

Program Descriptions

Summer Montessori Programs
Are you a working parent interested in extending your child’s Montessori learning experience into the summer months? Are you new to Greenspring Montessori School and looking to learn more with your child?

Parents enrolled in the 2018-19 school year at Greenspring Montessori have the opportunity to sign up for one or both of Summer Montessori sessions.

Toddler Montessori Program (18 months to 3 years)
Children work with hands-on classroom materials while striving to improve motor skills, language abilities, and socialization skills. They also enjoy songs, stories, outdoor play, and water days.

Children’s House Montessori Program (3 to 6 years)
Children learn more about Montessori and receive lessons on new materials. They will love learning about geography, language, mathematics, cooking, art, and more. Children will also have the opportunity to participate in daily Spanish lessons. This is a great way to introduce Montessori to your child or expand upon their existing experiences.

Children’s House students are required to be toilet trained in order to attend the program.

A Typical Day at Summer Fun:

8:30am – Arrivals
9:00am – Morning Exploration & Snack
11:00am – Water & Outdoor/Gym Play
12:00pm – Dismissal for Morning Friends & Lunch
1:00pm – Rest Time (children under 5 are given the opportunity to rest/nap); Enrichment Project; Fun!
3:00pm – Snack Time
3:20pm – Outdoor/Gym Play
4:00pm – Dismissal for Full Day Friends

 


 

Payment Information

Early Bird Discount
Enroll by Friday, March 15, 2019 to receive 5% off the packages above with the discount code MY5OFF.

Sibling Discounts
Parents enrolling more than one child in Greenspring Montessori School’s Summer Fun Program will receive 10% off for the child enrolled in the less expensive program. Please email inform@greenspringmontessori.org to receive a coupon code for your registration.

Late Payments
In the event payments are not received in full when due, a late charge for accounts 30 days past due will be assessed at the rate of 1.5% per month on the unpaid balance. This is an annual percentage rate of 18%.

An enrollment space will not be held for a child if payment is not made when due.

Non-Refundable Deposit
There is a $75 non-refundable deposit for each week your child is enrolled. If you choose to cancel registration, the $75 deposit per week will be deducted from you refund. 


 

Application and Enrollment Guidelines

Orientation

All parents (upon receipt of a completed summer application) will receive an orientation packet after May 1, 2019 which will include information needed for each of our summer programs.

 

Holiday

School is closed in observation of Independence Day on Thursday, July 4, 2019. Fees are not pro-rated for this session.

 

Withdrawal Policy

The Program Director reserves the right to request the immediate withdrawal of any participant whose behavior is detrimental to the program.

Please note that refunds cannot be granted for individual days missed (i.e., for illness, etc.).

 

Toileting Policy

Children must be toilet-trained before participation in all programs except for our Toddler Summer Fun Program.

 

Health Forms

All children participating in Summer Fun programs must fill out the health section of the application prior to the start of the Summer Program in accordance to State Regulations.

 

Changes to your Registration

 

If you wish to amend your child’s program choice or length of day, we must be notified via email to the Program Director, Shari Wolf, at swolf@greenspringmontessori.org. We will let you know if we can accommodate your request. The first change is free of charge, but each additional change will result in a $35 service fee.
