Summer Programs at Greenspring Montessori

For Children 18 months to 10 years

 

Greenspring Summer Fun offers a fun-filled, nurturing and non-competitive environment in which to learn and play for children ages 18 months to 10 years old. Come explore science, nature, history and geography; create music, art and craft projects; and learn skills through cooking and recreational sports. Children and their families will enjoy our small, family-like atmosphere. Our Summer Fun Programs offer fun for everyone!

Sessions for Summer 2020:

Programs run from June 22 to August 7, 2020. See the programs below for details from the 2020 summer sessions.

Adventurers Program (ages 6-10)

Hours and Fees

8:30am-4:00pm – $360 per week

Each week includes one field trip such as the Maryland Zoo, Monster Mini Golf, and Urban Air Trampoline Park.


 

Weekly Programs

Super Structures and Slime!
Week 1 – June 22 – 26
We will explore super structures—castles, towers, pyramids, pentagons, and forts. Learn about the many different architectural styles of the world while building your own incredible structures! We will also explore some sticky icky science as we stir, mix, and shake our way to create lots of slime to ooze through our fingers while we learn about solids, liquids, and gases. Each day is filled with science games, experiments and much more!

Amazing Art
Week 2 – June 29 – July 2
(closed Friday, July 3)
Reach beyond and create art that is unique. Children will feel empowered to be creative and expressive. It’s amazing to see what kids design when given the freedom to explore and express themselves creatively! This is an experience that will spark creativity, engagement, exploration, and individual expression. Let imaginations soar!

Performing Arts and Storytelling
Week 3 – July 6 – 10
We will explore the opportunity to be both creator and performer in a dramatic artistic endeavor. We will work with a variety of 3-D processes as we create objects, props, puppets, masks, and other forms. We will explore different ways stories can be told and experienced and children will creatively tell their own stories. We will end the week with a performance for our families and other camp programs.

Culinary Kids
Week 4 – July 13 – 17
Cooking together can be a delicious learning experience! Join us as we peel, chop, and bake our way through a fun day! During this program, we will learn how to read recipes, measure ingredients, explore new foods, and learn basic culinary skills and nutritional value. We will share interesting facts about world cuisine and encourage students to share their own cultural food experiences. We hope everyone leaves inspired to share their cooking experience at home!

Animal Planet
Week 5 – July 20 – 24
The world is home to about one-and-a-half million different kinds of animals. Join us as we explore a fascinating world of animals from ones so small that they can only be seen through a microscope to the massive blue whale, the largest animal that has ever lived. Learn about how animals evolved, where they live today, and why so many are in danger. This is sure to be a roaring adventure for everyone!

 

Sports Unlimited
Week 6 – July 27 – 31
So many sports, so little time. A wide variety of sports will be played where each day is a different sports experience. We will also explore some fun backyard favorites such as Frisbee and kickball. Fitness, teamwork, and fun are emphasized. We will alternate between indoor and outdoor activities.

Summer Classics and Carnival
Week 7 – August 3 – 7
Let’s revive the classic games of the past!
Pure summer fun is the theme for the week, which is chock full of classics such as hopscotch, Jacks, Hokey Pokey, and so much more! Each day will include arts and crafts, storytelling, and creative play. We will end Summer Fun with a carnival on Friday. Many exciting games and carnival-themed activities are included. This is sure to make for great summer memories!

Explorers Program (ages 3-5)

Hours and Fees

8:30am-4:00pm – $350 per week

8:30am-12:00pm – $220 per week

Each week of Explorer Summer Fun includes one in-house guest presentation from organizations such as My Reptile Guys, Eric Energy, and the Fire Department.

Please be aware that priority is given to children enrolled in Full Day Programs. 


Weekly Programs

All Ball! 
Week 1 – June 22 – 26
Do all balls bounce? Are all balls round? How many ways do people use balls? With all this ball talk, let’s get outside and explore! This week is full of fun activities that include bouncing, throwing, painting, and creative play, as well as strengthening our physical development skills!

Movement and Tumbling
Week 2 – June 29 – July 2 
(closed Friday, July 3)
How many activities can we fit into a week? Let’s find out as we wiggle ourselves silly and get fit by tumbling, playing games, sports and dancing! This is the perfect place for your child to develop balance, strength, and coordination. This week is filled with fun and exciting obstacle courses, balance beams, movement activities and so much more!

Creative Art and Music
Week 3 – July 6 – 10
This program is designed for any child who wants to embark on a journey to their creative side. We will create projects using a wide variety of different mediums. Listening, singing and rhythm concepts will be our focus as we have fun exploring music and sharing songs together! Outdoor games, story-telling, and arts and crafts will be included in this program as well.

Down on the Farm
Week 4 – July 13 – 17
Baa! Cluck! Moo! This active, hands-on program will surely delight your three-year-olds as they learn about the animals that live on a farm and plants that grow there. We will even have a chance to meet live farm animals! Each day is filled with music, crafts, role-playing, food tasting, and many more fun activities!

Transportation
Week 5 – July 20 – 24
Some people walk and others drive cars. There are buses and trains, snowplows, fire engines, construction vehicles, and garbage trucks, too! Let’s talk about how we get around in our community and learn about the mighty community machines that we see so often. Join us as we lift, push, dig and dump our way through the week with fascinating stories, songs, art, and movement activities. This is sure to be a truckload of fun!

Summer Montessori programs are reserved for children who are enrolled in the 2020-21 school year. Families who have applied for the 2020-21 school year may fill out an application for Summer Montessori, however, acceptance into the program is contingent upon enrollment.

Program Descriptions

Summer Montessori Programs
Are you a working parent interested in extending your child’s Montessori learning experience into the summer months? Are you new to Greenspring Montessori School and looking to learn more with your child?

Parents enrolled in the 2020-21 school year at Greenspring Montessori have the opportunity to sign up for one or both of Summer Montessori sessions.

Toddler Montessori Program (18 months to 3 years)
Children work with hands-on classroom materials while striving to improve motor skills, language abilities, and socialization skills. They also enjoy songs, stories, outdoor play, and water days.

The Toddler Montessori Program will be led by Beth Callahan and Danuta Wilson.

Children’s House Montessori Program (3 to 6 years) 
Children learn more about Montessori and receive lessons on new materials. They will love learning about geography, language, mathematics, cooking, art, and more. Children will also have the opportunity to participate in daily Spanish lessons. This is a great way to introduce Montessori to your child or expand upon their existing experiences.

The Children’s House Montessori Program will be led by Shweta Santosh.

Children’s House students are required to be toilet trained in order to attend the program.

A Typical Day at Summer Fun:

8:30am – Arrivals
9:00am – Morning Exploration & Snack
11:00am – Water & Outdoor/Gym Play
12:00pm – Dismissal for Morning Friends & Lunch
1:00pm – Rest Time (children under 5 are given the opportunity to rest/nap); Enrichment Project; Fun!
3:00pm – Snack Time
3:20pm – Outdoor/Gym Play
4:00pm – Dismissal for Full Day Friends

 


 

Payment Information

Early Bird Discount
Enroll by Saturday, March 14, 2020 to receive 5% off the packages above with the discount code MY5OFF.

Sibling Discounts
Parents enrolling more than one child in Greenspring Montessori School’s Summer Fun Program will receive 10% off for the child enrolled in the less expensive program. Please email inform@greenspringmontessori.org to receive a coupon code for your registration.

Late Payments
In the event payments are not received in full when due, a late charge for accounts 30 days past due will be assessed at the rate of 1.5% per month on the unpaid balance. This is an annual percentage rate of 18%.

An enrollment space will not be held for a child if payment is not made when due.

Non-Refundable Deposit
There is a $75 non-refundable deposit for each week your child is enrolled. If you choose to cancel registration, the $75 deposit per week will be deducted from your refund. 


 

Application and Enrollment Guidelines

Orientation

All parents (upon receipt of a completed summer application) will receive an orientation packet after May 1, 2020 which will include information needed for each of our summer programs.

 

Holiday

School is closed in observation of Independence Day on Friday, July 3, 2020. Fees are not pro-rated for this session.

 

Withdrawal Policy

The Program Director reserves the right to request the immediate withdrawal of any participant whose behavior is detrimental to the program.

Please note that refunds cannot be granted for individual days missed (i.e., for illness, etc.).

 

Toileting Policy

Children must be toilet-trained before participation in all programs except for our Toddler Summer Fun Program.

 

Health Forms

All children participating in Summer Fun programs must fill out the health section of the application prior to the start of the Summer Program in accordance to State Regulations.

 

Changes to your Registration

If you wish to amend your child’s program choice or length of day, we must be notified via email to the Program Director, Shari Wolf, at swolf@greenspringmontessori.org. We will let you know if we can accommodate your request. The first change is free of charge, but each additional change will result in a $35 service fee.
