Professional Values

Our faculty and staff have collaboratively developed our Professional Values, which serve as a constant guide for our decisions as a school community. We are dedicated to upholding these values daily. Since they are shaped by our community, this is a living document and we acknowledge that they may evolve.

Love 

Love is the principle that elevates and sustains healthy relationships. It is the foundation of our work and connects us to our Cosmic task. We endeavor, through the practices of observation, clear communication, shared respect, and joy of life, to create a field of love–a safe space where human social and spiritual nature meets. We bring love into each interaction seeing the innate personhood of all, honoring each unique spirit, and grounding our relationships in empathy, kindness, gratitude, and goodwill.

Integrity 

We define integrity as stepping daily into our responsibilities. At Greenspring this means keeping the child/adolescent at the center of our thoughts, actions, and decisions. We operate in alignment with our school and Montessori principles, even when no one is watching; and support others in doing the same. We provide and graciously accept open, kind, clear, and honest communication. This supports strength and trust in our school community.

Community

We are here to serve and elevate. We hold and steward the entirety of the Greenspring community and its natural environment in our thinking and actions. We extend grace to ourselves and others, while always looking to the well-being of the whole, including children, families, colleagues, and our wider community. 

Lifelong Learning

Greenspringers are dedicated to lifelong learning, fueling inspiration and growth through committed study, practice, and self-reflection. We demonstrate curiosity by trying new strategies, exploring fresh perspectives, and listening, without judgment, to understand. We follow Dr. Montessori’s example of scientific inquiry and observation. This supports our continued growth as individuals, that of our students, and that of our community as a whole.

Education for Peace

Montessori, in its essence, is a way of living requiring profound respect for the personhood of all. We believe that each human, inclusive of all social identifiers, is a spiritual being with a cosmic connection to the Universe. We revere and care for ourselves, each other, our communities, and the natural world. This actively develops compassion and resilience, inspiring engaged, inclusive, and responsible citizenship.
