Adolescent Community Director
Greenspring Montessori School is seeking an Adolescent Community Director (ACD) to work with adolescents in grades 6-8 beginning in the 2026-27 school year. The Director must, first and foremost, deeply love and respect working with this age group and must be able to challenge and inspire the active minds and bodies of the adolescent. The Director must be intellectually curious, well grounded in a broad range of academic areas, have a wellspring of energy, a good sense of humor, have strong social/emotional skills, and be able to communicate fairly and effectively with students and their parents.
As team leader, the ACD must be highly organized, a good listener, a keen observer, and diplomatic. The Director should be conversant with the precepts of the Montessori philosophy and seek to integrate them as much as possible within the curriculum. An integrated, interdisciplinary curriculum, developed with the other team members under the auspices of the ACD should provide students with a balance between self-directed and group learning activities.
The ACD must be willing to lead in a collaborative atmosphere, be open-minded, non-competitive and must be committed to developing a safe, comfortable place to learn and grow.

Teaching Responsibilities
The Adolescent Community Director is responsible for the design, coordination and oversight of:
Academics
- Plan the scope and integration of entire curriculum across the disciplines
- Give lessons and review student work in particular disciplines
- Choose and help plan appropriate experiences for the fall and spring Odysseys
- Ensure that individual student learning needs are met
- Plan three Igniting Voice student presentations annually
- Administer student exams
Student Life
- Communicate with families (and oversee all family communications from team members)
- Oversee community meetings and discussions
- Oversee individual student disciplinary procedures and plans
- Plan, with team and adolescents, service learning opportunities
- Ensure that individual student social/emotional skills are being developed and consistently addressed
- Support student-run business (micro-economy)
Administrative Responsibilities
The Adolescent Community Director is routinely responsible for:
Adolescent Community personnel
- Provide ongoing support to team members, to include observations and feedback
- Lead team goal setting and self-reflection (and share with the Educational Director)
- Organize and lead team meetings; to include Montessori theory
- Participate in bi-monthly level coordinator meetings
- Communicate and collaborate with enrichment guides
Admissions
- Oversee monthly student contributions to the Director of Communications to support marketing the Adolescent Community
- Attend and support the admissions events
- Support students in High School admissions process
- Coordinate shadow days for sixth year students
- Collaborate with admissions to schedule applicant visits
Events
- Graduation – coordinate with administration to organize graduation ceremony
- Collaborate with administration to write grants as needed
- Collaborate with admissions to organize Adolescent for a Morning event
Budget support and management
- Work in partnership with the Director of Education to create a budget for the year
- Oversee the budget, assuring that financial goals are met and the Adolescent Community does not overspend
- Financial responsibility for ensuring the programming and Odysseys operate within the budget
Professional Qualifications
- Bachelors of Arts or Science
- Thorough understanding of and belief in Montessori philosophy
- Head teaching in an Middle School Program
- Skill in an academic area of specialization
- Staff supervision and management experience
- Experience in the art of team teaching

Required Professional Development
All staff are required to complete the following during each year of employment:
- Outside observation of a classroom at your level (full 3-hour morning work cycle)
- In-House observation – you must observe a classroom in each level for at least 20 minutes
- Seminar, conference, or workshop (must be pre-approved by administrator)
- Outside reading that is pertinent to your position at the school and approved by a direct supervisor
Position Details
This is a 10-month full time position with occasional weekend and evening hours over the course of the school year. Hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:00am – 4:00pm, and Thursdays from 8:00am – 5:00pm, and as needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. During the summer the position requires some time on campus, email communication and calls to parents and admin staff.
Work Authorization/Security Clearance
Authorization to work in the United States is a pre-condition of employment at Greenspring Montessori School.
