John Pierce

Children's House Naturalist

BS in General Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD 

John Pierce serves as a Naturalist with our Willow Children’s House classroom. John began at Greenspring four years ago in the Outdoor Environment, and he has also served as an Upper Elementary Partner, Montessori Model UN Advisor, and Elementary Writers’ Workshop Partner. He loves to bring students outdoors to explore gardening, science, and art – or simply work outside.

John will continue to be involved with MMUN as an advisor helping fifth and sixth grade students with their papers and speeches, and coordinating the logistics for the trip to New York City, as well as going to NYC as an adult advisor. He will also continue serving our Discovery program.

John is a Navy veteran who graduated from the Naval Academy and served 20 years on active duty as a Naval Flight officer in the S-3B Viking aircraft, aboard the carriers RangerKitty HawkTheodore Roosevelt, and John F. Kennedy. Upon leaving the Navy, John worked as a senior analyst, communications manager, editor, and writer for the Naval Air Systems Command. He has also worked as an actor, spokesperson, print model, and voice-over artist.

In his free time, John enjoys working out, traveling, and gardening.
